Flathead National Forest

Flathead National Forest stretches along the west side of the Continental Divide from the US Canadian border south for approximately 120 miles.  Nearly half of the Flathead's 2.3 million acres is designated wilderness and is a haven for wolves, peregrine falcons, bald eagles and grizzly bears. Grizzlies occupy 87 percent of forest lands.

There are almost 2,100 miles of foot and horse trails including 70- to 100-mile loops leaving from Holland Lake just east of Montana Hwy. 83.

A major attraction in the forest is the Chinese Wall, a thousand-foot-high and 12- mile-long limestone escarpment that forms the boundary between the Flathead and Lewis and Clark national forests and is part of the stunning, million-acre Bob Marshall Wilderness.

There are 219 miles of wild and scenic rivers in Flathead including the North, Middle and South forks of the Flathead River providing some of Montana's best whitewater rafting.  In addition, nearby is Flathead Lake offering water sports, cruises, boating, fishing, shopping and of course more hiking.
